Albuquerque Business First reports that Henry Cisneros and Mel Martinez, former secretaries of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) are leading a task force to address housing needs of aging seniors. Their goal is to prevent health issues that arise from improper living arrangements through the installation of grab bars, lower cabinetry, and better wheelchair access. They believe these efforts will reduce falls, the primary source of injury among individuals over the age of 65. They are also assessing transportation, looking for solutions that will grant seniors easier access to their communities.
